At age 41, author J.K. Rowling holds many distinctions. With a fortune estimated at one billion dollars, she is one of the most successful authors of our time. Rowling has been named the first person to become a billionaire by writing books. In fact, Rowling is so successful that her earnings top the Queen's! In celebration of the newest Harry Potter release, we decided to dig up some information on this lovely lady's living.
After leaving her first husband, and with a young daughter in tow, J.K. Rowling created Harry Potter from humble beginnings. Rowling lived in subsidized housing with her daughter, earning meager pay. It was a gift from friend that allowed her to send her daughter to a private daycare, so she could spend time at her favorite coffee shop, writing. From her writing, the Harry Potter series was born.
Six years ago, Rowling became the owner of a beautiful estate named "Killiechassie House". It is located on a Scottland river bank, and includes 162 acres of land with salmon fishing rights! The home was purchased as a retreat, and the author has no plans of moving in, it's a second home.
It has also been reported that Rowling owns, and lives in a townhome in Merchiston, Endinburgh. She also bought the townhome ajourning hers, with plans to convert the two into a single family home. News about that particular home hit the media when Rowling petitioned to build a six foot privacy fence around her home, after being harrassed by a stalker and a neighbor. Neighbors protested, for fear that the fence will take away from the integrity of the neighborhood, but certainly Rowling has to protect her little ones, as she has 3 children. Thus, despite Rowling's success, she has to answer to her neighbors, too!
