It's the 4th of July, and though it doesn't fall on a weekend this year, it will still be celebrated right smack dab in the middle of the week. One of the greatest things about having a home, is the ability to celebrate with family and friends for the holidays. The 4th of July is special because around the country there are beautiful firework shows. One city reports that there are more house fires caused from fireworks on the 4th of July than all other causes of fire that day.
As you prepare to feast on your favorite holiday snacks, and barbeque, don't forget that this holiday is one of the most dangerous in terms of fire safety.
Each year, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issues a report on firework deaths and injuries based on the previous year. Last year, 9,200 people were treated for firework related injuries.
Fireworks are illegal and banned in many states as a result of injuries, and dry weather. States where consumer fireworks are completely banned are: Delaware,Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey and Rhode Island. The Consumer Product Safety Commission lists other firework restrictions here.
So, remember to enjoy the holiday. But, be careful to avoid injuries and fire. Happy 4th!
