1. Use the Internet
The internet is the ultimate key to finding information. The best way to find what you want is to use a search engine, but to use specific key words. So, instead of searching one word like “Chicago”, or “Boston”, search an entire phrase, like “Livng on the South Side of Chicago”, or “living close to the highway in Boston”. You may be surprised to find entire articles or websites dedicated to the city, or area you hope to live in. Look for crime statistics, and news stories that mention the neighborhood.
2. Talk to a real estate professional
Most real estate professionals love to talk about the area they live in, or work in. If you can come up with a list of things you are looking for in an area, a real estate pro may be able to find you a neighborhood that offers what you are looking for.
3. Visit
Once you have completed the research, and have a general idea of what you are looking for, plan to take a trip to the area. Or, if the new area is local, take a drive. Visit the restaurants, get a feel for the neighborhood, and the neighbors. Drive to the schools, and the parks. Also, something really important. Drive a few miles outside of the neighborhood. You will want to know about your surroundings.
With research, and a few hours of visiting, you may find just what you are looking for in a new neighborhood.
