There is an interesting article at CNN.com today, regarding funding for homes in New Orleans post hurricane Katrina.  It seems that there are over 35,000 homes in New Orleans that qualify for the National Register of Historic Places.  There are more historic properties in New Orleans, per captia than in any other U.S. city.   The loss in New Orleans in terms of historic housing value has been huge, and many home and land owners are still trying to find a way to bring the city-particularly the neighborhoods-back.

As devestating as the damage to the housing, and community of New Orleans is, it seems the money allocated by the government to restore the homes in the community was used long ago.  Recently, Congress approved another round of funding that will help restore homes in the area.  What is sad is that two years after the storm, insurance settlements still haven’t been paid, and aid for the region isn’t as popular.  This, leaving many neighborhoods desolate and empty.
